Glancing at NFL betting lines weekly, there are plenty of other variables to take into consideration. Football teams flying across the country to play an away game. Weather conditions are of course a big gauge to sway a possible over/under. How a kicker has fared booting from forty plus yards out.One of the main areas overlooked is the injury report. Here are some key injuries for week two to consider before rushing to input that bet.
Sam Bradford – It looks as if Bradford should be fine after his scare with a hand injury. The Rams are stating that he will be able to start without any setbacks. This is information that you have to take the Rams word for and go from there. This team definitely functions better with Bradford behind center.
Arian Foster – The news with Foster isn’t that he will be missing another game. It is that he will be back out on the field to face the Dolphins. Foster ended last season as one of the most prolific backs in the NFL. Last week Ben Tate had no problem filling in for Foster. So it appears that the Texans will have a complete dynamic backfield for 2011.
Steven Jackson – Jackson showcased that he hasn’t lost a step yet, when he burst through the Eagles defense for a long touchdown on his first carry. That carry though resulted in a quadriceps injury that is expected to keep Jackson out. On the good side the Rams signed Cadillac Williams in the off-season who was filled in very decently after Jackson exited.
Knowshown Moreno – A hamstring injury to a running back typically doesn’t bode well for the upcoming week. The Broncos have not officially declared Moreno out, but all signs are that Willis McGahee will start and get the bulk of the carries.
Steve Johnson - Ryan Fitzpatrick’s favorite target since last season has missed practice thus far this week with a groin injury. Buffalo traded Lee Evans in the off-season, and has inexperience behind Johnson. That could mean extra carries for Fred Jackson and backup CJ Spiller.
Calvin Johnson – The value of Calvin Johnson to Matthew Stafford is exponential. They have a natural rapport with each other. Pass plays that have the slightest window or need the perfect timing route is what these two excel in. Johnson should be available Sunday even though he has missed practice with an ankle injury.
Hakeem Nicks – The Giants offense definitely to not get off to a satisfying start for head coach Tom Coughlin. The running game was held in check, and Eli Manning threw a couple of unwarranted interceptions. New York is already trying to replace former starters Steve Smith and tight end Kevin Boss. With Nicks status questionable with a knee injury, the Giants could be dependant highly on Mario Manningham and unproven receivers.
Brandon Lloyd – Lloyd was one of the main catalysts for Kyle Orton week one that kept the Broncos in the game vs. the Raiders. The Broncos play an afternoon game and are keeping Lloyd’s status as a game time decision. Eric Decker made some noise in the return game Monday Night, and may be counted on to fill in for Lloyd.
Dez Bryant – Tony Romo would like to take back his fourth quarter against the Jets, there is no doubt about that. Part of the reason the Cowboys struggled towards the last part of the game, was that Bryant was trying to play on an aggravated quad. The Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expects Bryant to play without any setbacks.
Roy Williams – The Bears signing of Roy Williams hasn’t gone according to plan yet. The Dallas Cowboys know all about that. Williams has a groin injury as well, and if unable to go the Bears will go to their 2010 scenario with Hester and Johnny Knox starting.
Sidney Rice – Pete Carrol has stated that the idea of Rice playing this week is still highly unlikely. The Seahawks struggled week one offensively, so look for the Seahawks to keep things simple and try to control the clock.
